The work of Hardeep Singh, MD, MPH, and his team at HSR’s Center for Innovations in Quality, Effectiveness and Safety (IQuESt), has gained recent global attention. Six publications (see below) co-authored by Dr. Singh were cited in the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Global Patient Safety Report 2024. The report describes progress made as well as next steps to promote patient safety through the systemic changes detailed in the WHO Global Patient Safety Action Plan. Dr. Singh also contributed a feature story to the report. He previously served as an invited expert on the Drafting and Review Task Force of the WHO action plan.

In addition, Dr. Singh was invited to serve on WHO’s Steering Committee and Planning Group for World Patient Safety Day (WPSD) 2024: “Improving Diagnosis for Patient Safety.” WPSD raises public awareness and fosters collaboration between patients, health workers, policymakers, and healthcare leaders to improve patient safety. Dr. Singh will provide strategic guidance to WHO for successful implementation of the WPSD global campaign.

Besides focusing on understanding and reducing diagnostic errors, Dr. Singh’s research interests include the use of health information technology to improve healthcare, the safety of electronic health record implementation and use, and environmental sustainability and climate change.
