VETWISE-LHS is structured around four core teams that provide the foundation for our research, implementation, and training activities. Each core focuses on a specialized area critical to advancing the mission of improving healthcare for Veterans. Our multidisciplinary approach ensures that we address the most pressing health challenges through data-driven research, Veteran engagement, and evidence-based interventions.
Explore the work of each core below to understand how they contribute to transforming the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) into a Learning Health System (LHS). Cores collaborate closely with VA leaders, researchers, and Veterans to drive innovations that improve healthcare outcomes.
The BIDS core supports scientists in the design, management, and execution of research aimed at transforming healthcare data into actionable knowledge. By leveraging biomedical informatics and advanced data science techniques, the BIDS core is enhancing clinical workflows, diagnostic evaluations, and overall care delivery for Veterans.
The VEC core ensures that Veterans, their caregivers, and community stakeholders are central to the design, implementation, and evaluation of VETWISE-LHS projects. This core focuses on improving the reach, adoption, and sustainability of healthcare interventions by engaging directly with those who matter most—Veterans themselves.
The POHP core is dedicated to generating evidence about which healthcare strategies are safe, effective, and of high value for Veterans. By working closely with policymakers and healthcare providers, this core helps inform decision-making and influences policies that positively impact Veteran care.
The Administrative and Training core provides leadership, mentorship, and operational support for all VETWISE-LHS activities. It plays a critical role in developing the next generation of healthcare researchers by offering career development opportunities and implementing LHS competencies for trainees.
