Melissa Garrido, PhD, has been appointed to the Medicare Evidence Development & Coverage Advisory Committee (MEDCAC) - a group of experts who evaluate the strength of evidence for medical items and services that are or may be covered by Medicare. The MEDCAC is used to supplement the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' (CMS) internal expertise, and to conduct unbiased assessments of "state-of-the-art" technology and science. Members of the Committee judge the strength of the available evidence and make recommendations to CMS based on that evidence. The MEDCAC includes up to 100 experts in clinical and administrative medicine, biologic and physical sciences, patient advocacy, healthcare data, healthcare economics, and medical ethics.
Dr. Garrido is supported by an HSR&D Career Development Award (CDA) and is a health services researcher at the Geriatric Research, Education, and Clinical Center at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in Bronx, NY.
