Christopher L. Bryson, MD, MPH, a former HSR&D Career Development Awardee and core investigator at HSR&D’s Center of Excellence in Seattle, WA passed away on March 12, 2022. Dr. Bryson completed his medical and residency training at the University of Texas Southwestern and in 2000, came to the University of Washington to complete a fellowship In Health Services Research. He then joined the faculty as an Acting Instructor based at the VA Puget Sound health care system, where he was highly respected as an outstanding attending physician on both the inpatient service and in the primary care clinic. As an investigator at HSR&D’s Center of Excellence in Seattle, WA, he pioneered early efforts to measure medication adherence using large, national, pharmacy databases and applied those metrics in pharmacoepidemiologic studies of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. He published nearly 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals and was the recipient of numerous grants to support his research. He was also an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Washington, Department of Health Services. For medical reasons, Dr. Bryson retired from the faculty in 2013.
