HSR&D researcher A. Rani Elwy, PhD, was invited by the Washington University in St. Louis faculty to deliver the second annual Enola Proctor Lecture, which was given on October 9, 2023 and kicked off their annual Dissemination and Implementation (D&I) Science Bootcamp. Expert implementation scientists across the country were invited to provide consultations on scientific proposals to support D&I capacity building. Dr. Elwy spoke on “Building Capacity in Implementation Science: Vision, Partnerships, and Readiness for Change.”
A health psychologist, HSR&D Research Career Scientist (RCS), and implementation scientist, Dr. Elwy co-leads the Bridging the Care Continuum for Vulnerable Veterans (Bridge) QUERI Program. She also co-leads QUERI’s Evidence, Policy and Implementation Center (EPIC), which promotes the use of state-of-the-art implementation science (IS) frameworks, measures, and methods to accelerate the translation of research discoveries into routine care within the VA healthcare system. In addition, Dr. Elwy is Founding Director of Brown University’s Research on Implementation and Dissemination to Guide Evidence Use (BRIDGE) Program, and Co-Director of Implementation Science in Advance-RI Clinical Translational Research in the Biomedical Informatics Core. She also serves as an implementation scientist in the Biobehavioral Sciences Core of the Providence/Boston Center for AIDS Research.
The Enola Proctor Lecture recognizes the unique and cardinal contributions to the D&I science field by Professor Enola Proctor. The lecturer chosen is considered someone of exceptional influence in the field's vision for the future, as is Dr. Proctor. Dr. Proctor has advised the National Institutes of Health and the World Health Organization on several implementation science projects in low- and middle-income countries, including work on COVID vaccine implementation, among other accomplishments. Dr. Proctor also directs the Implementation Research Institute, a training program in implementation science at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Elwy was a fellow in the IRI from 2012-2014.
