Program Description: There is a lag with the translation of research into practice. While there are often over and under estimations of time lags, some literature suggests that with traditional approaches to research it’s estimated that it takes roughly 17 years for 14% of research findings to be implemented into routine practice. Through using an active Dissemination & Implementation (D&I) approach it may be feasible that 80% of research findings could be adopted into real-world practice in only 3-5 years. D&I is a newer scientific process and this training will be the first step in understanding how the principles of D&I Science can improve translation of research into routine practice. Through training, VA researchers, providers, and staff can become more familiar with D&I theories, methods, and frameworks to help translate evidence-based practices into clinical settings. Ideally, new innovations will be implemented, disseminated, and sustained over time in a more efficient and acceptable manner to improve overall healthcare outcomes of Veterans.
