Congratulations to Daniel Hall, MD, MDiv, MHSc, a core investigator with HSR&D’s Center for Health Equity Research & Promotion (CHERP), and James Henry, PhD, HSR&D investigator and part of the VA Portland Health Care System, whose promising practices were selected as finalists to participate in the Diffusion of Excellence Shark Tank Competition at the upcoming Innovation Experience Conference!
The Diffusion of Excellence Initiative (DEI) helps identify and disseminate best practices through a learning environment that empowers its top performers to apply innovative ideas throughout the VA healthcare system.
Dr. Hall’s promising practices focuses on Pre-operative Frailty Screening & Prehabilitation. A former HSR&D Career Development Awardee, Dr. Hall’s research focuses on improving the decision-making and pre-operative care of frail patients scheduled for elective surgery.
Dr. Henry’s promising practice focuses on Tinnitus Services for Veterans Nationwide. As mentioned in his HSR&D-funded study, “Progressive Tinnitus Management: An Assessment of Readiness,” tinnitus has been the most prevalent service-connected disability since FY2007. Dr .Henry is also a Research Career Scientist with the Rehabilitation Research and Development program.
The 15 DEI finalists’ promising practices cover a range of topics – from Whole Health for Opioids to Parkinson’s Disease Boot Camp – and will compete at the VHA Innovation Experience conference to be held in Washington, DC from October 22-23, 2019.
