Alexis Chidi, PhD, MSPH, CPH - a trainee at the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of Pittsburgh and mentee of Michael Fine, MD, MSc, co-Director of HSR&D's Center for Health Equity Research & Promotion (CHERP) - was selected to introduce President Barack Obama at the White House Frontiers Conference that will take place in Pittsburgh on Thursday, October 13. Hundreds of the country's most prominent scientists, technologists, and researchers will gather at the one-day Conference to talk about the future of great ideas: from advances in medicine and computer technology to building "Smart Cities" and better neighborhoods. Dr. Chidi will highlight her VA research on the "Cost-effectiveness of New Antiviral Regimens for Treatment-Naive U.S. Veterans with Hepatitis C" in her introductory remarks. She and her colleagues' research shows that the VA could save money in the long run by expanding access to interferon-free hepatitis C medications to all eligible, treatment-naive patients.
This is a great honor for Dr. Chidi and her collaborators on this project, including CHERP investigators Dr. Fine, Shari Rogal, MD, C. Bernie Good, MD, MPH, and Larissa Myaskovsky, PhD. Dr. Chidi's introduction of President Obama will be live streamed at http://www.frontiersconference.org/plenary.
