Steven Asch, MD, MPH, Directorof HSR&D's Center for Innovation to Implementation (Ci2i), will be part of a new editorial team as one of three editors-in-chief of the Journal of General Internal Medicine (JGIM) – the official journal of the Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM), a national medical society of 3,000 physicians dedicated to improving general internal medicine. Over the next five years, the JGIM editorial team aims to increase clinical content and the number of systematic reviews, in addition to broadening content on implementation science and quality improvement.
In addition to directing Ci2i, which works to maximize value by testing organizational innovations to make VA medical care more collaborative and efficient, Dr. Asch is Chief of Health Services Research at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System, and is a Professor of Medicine at Stanford University. His research focuses on quality measurement and improvement systems, often in the care of patients with communicable disease, particularly HIV. Dr. Asch has led several national projects developing broad-based quality measurement tools for Veterans, Medicare beneficiaries, and the community. He also is a practicing internist and palliative care physician, and the author of more than 280 peer-reviewed articles.
