Erika D. Sears, MD, MS, is a staff plastic surgeon, specializing in hand surgery, and a health services researcher at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System. She is a research investigator with the Ann Arbor Center for Clinical Management Research (CCMR) and an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Michigan Medical School. Dr. Sears received her MD from the University of Michigan Medical School. She completed her residency in plastic surgery and clinical fellowship in hand surgery at Michigan Medicine. Dr. Sears also completed her health services research fellowship as a VA Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholar at the University of Michigan, where she also received a Masters of Science in Health and Healthcare Research. Dr. Sears' career development award, "Assessing Treatment Delay and Resource Use to Improve Value of Pre-Surgical Care," focuses on the measurement and improvement of quality and utilization in the period between diagnosis and surgery for VHA patients with carpal tunnel syndrome. This effort to improve value and efficiency of care prior to surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome lays the groundwork to improve coordination, access, and quality of pre-surgical care more broadly for other conditions.
