A. Taylor Kelley, MD, MPH, MSc, is a staff physician and research scientist in the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System and assistant professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Utah School of Medicine. His research interests focus on improving healthcare access and quality for patients experiencing socioeconomic or health-related disadvantage, with an emphasis on substance use disorders (SUDs) among Veterans. He has partnered in related projects in the Veterans Health Administration, in American Indian/Alaska Native communities, and among other rural, immigrant, and socioeconomically disadvantaged populations. Dr. Kelley's Career Development Award, "Patient-Centered Quality Measurement for Opioid Use Disorder," uses patient-collected audio and mixed methods to (1) assess the extent of patient-centered care provided by primary care clinicians for Veterans with opioid use disorder and its association with Veteran engagement in care over time; and (2) develop a feedback-based intervention to improve patient-centered care for this Veteran population.
Dr. Kelley is board-certified in internal medicine and addiction medicine. He earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Brigham Young University, a medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, a Master of Public Health degree from Harvard, and Master of Health Care Research from the University of Michigan. He completed residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at Yale-New Haven Hospital and fellowship in the National Clinician Scholars Program at VA Ann Arbor Health Care System and the University of Michigan.
