Three HSR&D Researchers Awarded Best Abstract At AcademyHealth Annual Research Meeting
The VA Health Services Research & Development Service (HSR&D) was well-represented at the recent 2011 AcademyHealth Annual Research Meeting. In total, three abstracts by VA HSR&D investigators were included among the 21 award winners. Awardees are selected from the entire field of all qualifying research papers submitted in response to AcademyHealth's Call for Papers. In addition, a separate review committee considers all 21 category-based winners, and selects three as "Best Overall Abstract" awardees—one of these was also by a VA HSR&D investigator.

Co-authors Jennifer Scott, M.S., research associate, and Ciaran Phibbs, Ph.D., health economist, both of the of the Health Economics Resource Center, Menlo Park, California; and Susan Frayne, M.D., Ph.D., of the Center for Health Care Evaluation at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System are also VA HSR&D investigators. - Implementation of Evidence-Based Weight Practices in Specialty Mental Health by Alexander Young, M.D., M.S.H.S., investigator, Center for the Study of Healthcare Provider Behavior at the VA Great Los Angeles Healthcare System, and the University of California, Los Angeles. Co-author Amy Cohen is also a VA HSR&D investigator with Center for the Study of Healthcare Provider Behavior at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Los Angeles.
