Burgess DJ. Eliminating disparities in pain assessment and treatment: Recommendations from the National Pain Strategy and its implications for VA. Spotlight on Pain Management [Cyberseminar]. Health Services Research & Development. 2016 Feb 2.
Description: The objective of this seminar is to provide an overview of the Disparities component of the National Pain Strategy (NPS) and to engage participants in an interactive discussion of the specific objectives and strategies, aimed at reducing disparities. Dr. Burgess will provide an overview of and background on the NPS, with a focus on the disparities component. She will discuss the Healthy People 2020 definition of disparities and discuss how it was used to frame the development of strategies aimed at improving the quality of pain care and reducing barriers for all minority, vulnerable, stigmatized, and underserved populations at risk of pain and pain care disparities. She will then discuss the objectives and strategies in greater depth, and provide opportunities for the audience to provide input on the objectives they believe are most important for the VA to pursue, as well as what might be missing from the discussion on disparities and pain.
