Abstract:

Brief Description: Connecting Older Veterans (Especially Rural) to Community Or Veteran Eligible Resources. Veterans report limited knowledge of benefits and resources available to them through the VA. Older and rural Veterans have additional challenges in understanding and applying for benefits that they have earned. This program collaborates with community agencies to create local access points for rural Veterans for benefits, resources, and health care services, by providing options counselors training in VA Benefits, and builds relationships with the VA and community agencies. This program began in rural sites in Utah in conjunction with the Utah Aging and Disability Resource Center. In FY 16 dissemination began to other States and VISN 9, and now continues through sustainment from national, state, and local sponsors.
