Updates on the Relationship between TBI and Dementia

Description: Older Veterans with history of TBI are at increased risk of developing dementia. In this seminar the presenters will review recent studies using VHA data that expand knowledge on the impact of TBI on dementia risk in older Veterans. Specifically, studies on the effects of race and cardiovascular disease and risk factors will be presented. The presentation will also cover novel work looking at a potential causal relationship using a twin study paradigm and a study exploring the population attributable risk of dementia associated with TBI in civilians and Veterans.
