Vanessa Panaite, PhD – Career Development Awardee

Vanessa Panaite, PhD
James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital, Tampa, FL
Tampa, FL

Dr. Vanessa Panaite is a clinical psychologist and research scientist at the Tampa VA Medical Center. Her research takes a quantitative approach to examine: 1) how daily experiences and emotions impact short-term and long-term depression trajectories and outcomes for people with major depression; and 2) patient profiles associated with depression treatment utilization patterns. Her HSR&D-funded Career Development Award focuses on 1) understanding patient profiles associated with initiating and disengaging from treatment for depression and 2) testing a depression self-monitoring aid to help patients newly referred to treatment for depression and at high risk for treatment disengagement pursue mental health care.

Dr. Panaite received her BA degree in psychology from Case Western Reserve University and her PhD in clinical psychology from the University of South Florida (USF) after completing a clinical psychology internship at the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital in Chicago, IL. At USF, Dr. Panaite's research was supported by the USF Dean's Award for Excellence, Psi Chi Graduate Research Grant, and the USF Dissertation Completion Fellowship. After receiving her PhD, Dr. Panaite was supported by the HSR&D Advanced Research Training Fellowship at the Tampa VA where she continued as an early career investigator.
