Capacity Building

Health Services Research and Development Service (HSR&D) continues to build the capacity needed to meet the growing demand for health services research expertise and geographic centers to address health care concerns for veterans. HSR&D currently supports a Career Development Award Program (CDA) for Clinician and other PhD investigators, and national HSR Centers that include Centers of Excellence (CoE), Research Enhancement Award Programs (REAP) and Resource Centers (RC). The Nursing Research Initiative (NRI) is another mentored capacity building program managed by HSR&D for all Services within ORD. These overall program initiatives include: fostering careers for future clinician and non-clinician scientists; fostering development of infrastructure at promising medical centers; identifying the need for and targeting capacity development for Centers of Excellence and/or Resource Centers in selected scientific areas; new mentoring, leadership and other training programs and initiatives; and collaborative activities with the Office of Academic Affiliations (OAA) to support research of selected fellows.
