Developing and Initial Testing of a Mobile App Delivering an Evidence-based Weight Management Program to Veterans with Schizophrenia: CoachToFit

Cohen AN, Rocchio R. Developing and Initial Testing of a Mobile App Delivering an Evidence-based Weight Management Program to Veterans with Schizophrenia: CoachToFit. Spotlight on Mental Health Centers of Excellence [Cyberseminar]. VA HSR&D. 2019 Feb 11.

Abstract:

The population with a serious mental illness is more likely to be obese, compared to the general population, and needs tailored weight programs. Tailored weight programs have been developed but barriers to utilization exist at the organizational and patient levels. We developed and tested a weight management smartphone app, called CoachToFit, and a management web dashboard, to address these barriers. The app is supported by weekly coaching calls from VA peer specialists who have lived experience with serious mental illness. User-centered and iterative methods of app development and weight outcomes will be presented. Intended audience: Providers, administrators, policymakers, and researchers interested in weight management, the use of peer specialists to support evidence-based practices, mobile health, and/or the population with serious mental illness.
