Brief Description: This informatics tool is used to accomplish complex natural language processing tasks. Moonstone is a Java-based NLP tool for extracting clinical variables e.g., social determinants of health like homelessness, social support, etc. using a typed semantic language (TSL), and a semantic grammar. More recently, Moonstone can read a domain ontology. Adoption by VA Facilities: Available Nationally through VINCI New Research or Operations Funding to Further Develop, Test or Disseminate: CREATE funding is available. Led to or Shaped VA National Program or Clinical Practice(s): Advances in efforts to identify specific clinical text resulting in rapid patient identification, diagnosis and treatment.
