Using Medicare Data in VA Research: Part 1

Description: This session will provide an overview of Medicare data available to VA researchers and describe how these data can be used to identify Veterans healthcare services received outside the VA, paid by Medicare. Examples of VA research that utilize Medicare data will be presented. The target audience is investigators and data users that are new to Medicare data.

Objectives: • To describe the Medicare program and the source of Medicare data.
• To identify Medicare data that can be used to assess Veterans healthcare services paid by Medicare.
• To discuss strengths and limitations of using Medicare data
