VA Data Access Requirements for Research

Description: For new and established VA data users, this presentation focuses on the regulatory requirements for requesting access to existing databases containing Veterans' healthcare information. In an effort to increase VA researcher awareness and understanding, we will provide an overview of the documents and information needed and why. Our primary goal in doing so is to simplify compliance with the data request process supporting research conducted on behalf of Veterans.
Objectives:
• Summarize types of VA data use and how VA defines research
• Outline essential components for VA research data access
• Explain the regulatory requirements for VA research
• Describe useful resources to learn more about VA data sources and tools
• Provide a brief description of VA research data request processes
