by Tomica Jefferson, MSM
Seminar date: 5/1/2024

Description: The Data Access Request Tracker (DART) is critical to the VHA research community as a tool for requesting access to VA data sources and other tools available for preparatory to research (PTR) data activities and VA approved research projects. Learn how National Data Systems (NDS), VA Informatics & Computing Infrastructure (VINCI), and the VA Information Resource Center (VIReC), work together to make certain the data we approve and provide is authorized under Federal law and VHA regulations. During this session we will examine the directives, other relevant documents, and data privacy requirements for gaining access to VA data for research purposes.

Objectives:
• Identify the documentation needed for DART, the information will include examples of acceptable templated language
• Review applicable VA policy directives
• Identify the different types of Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) and how that affects data privacy forms.
• Identify discrepancies in documentation and how to correct them
