Description: This presentation will provide an overview of adaptive research designs and their use in implementation science. Adaptive designs have a lot of power and are intended to boost evidence-based uptake by increasing efficiency (lowering time and cost), while retaining validity and integrity. In this example, consideration was taken of when and for which facilities implementation strategies should be provided. In this case, creating an adaptive implementation strategy that provides different degrees of implementation support in a stepwise fashion is expected to be an efficient way of improving uptake. Lessons learned from a QUERI funded Partnered Evaluation Initiative to improve the uptake of universal suicide risk screening in VHA will be discussed to highlight different design elements and considerations for conducting adaptive implementation designs.
Intended audience for the presentation: researchers, clinicians, practitioners, or anyone interested in learning more about or using adaptive designs
