Using Medicaid Data in VA Research

Description: This cyberseminar will provide an overview of the Medicaid data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) that are available for use in VA. The presentation will include a brief overview of the types of data produced by CMS, its availability in the VHA, and Veterans' enrollment in Medicaid and their healthcare utilization paid by Medicaid. Lastly, the presenter will provide examples using VA and Medicaid data together to accurately ascertain healthcare services received.

Objectives:
• Provide an overview of Medicaid data and how it can be used to assess Veterans' health services use outside VA
• Discuss the benefits and limitations of using Medicaid data
• Provide guidance on which Medicaid data may be most beneficial based on specific research objectives or cohorts
• Explain how to access and where to find support for working with Medicaid data
