The Role of Peer Support in Reducing Risk for Negative Outcomes for Women Veterans

by Tara Galovski, PhD ; Dawne Vogt, PhD
Seminar date: 1/20/2022

Description: Isolation after separation from service and lack of public awareness of women’s service coupled with suboptimal military cultural competence in the public domain are predictors of poor outcomes for women Veterans. The value of peer-facilitated support interventions has been established across a variety of venues to assist Veterans with different needs. The Women Veterans Network (WoVeN) was specifically designed to 1) meet the unique needs of women Veterans, 2) encompass the full range of topics identified by women Veterans as central to improving their quality of life, 3) provide content developed by national experts, and 4) provide a sustainable social support network at both the local and national level. This cyberseminar describes the WoVeN program and its recent expansion (BRIDGES) designed to provide similar supports for women Servicemembers as they transition to civilian life.
