Description: The QUERI Spreading Healthcare Access, Activities, Research and Knowledge (SHAARK) Partnered Evaluation represents a multi-year partnership with the VHA Diffusion of Excellence to conduct an embedded mixed-methods evaluation using primary and secondary VA data to examine the adoption, implementation, sustainment, and spread of promising clinical and administrative practices in the VA. We share the experience of conducting and sustaining a partnered evaluation of the VHA Diffusion of Excellence program as a basis for demonstrating approaches and lessons that can be considered by others who may embark on an embedded research or evaluation project in partnership with non-research health system colleagues.
Objectives:
1. Provide a history of the partnership between the QUERI SHAARK Partnered Evaluation Initiative and
VHA Diffusion of Excellence (DoE).
2. Describe the DoE process for identifying and replicating promising practices throughout VA.
3. Describe our evaluation methods and use of data to inform DoE impacts with respect to practice
adoption, implementation, sustainment, and spread.
