Virtual Care Expansion During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Clinical Services and Patient Characteristics Associated with Utilization

by Jacqueline Ferguson, PhD
Seminar date: 5/11/2021

Description: As COVID-19 spread through the US in March 2020, the Veterans Health Administration (VA) made a dramatic and unprecedented nationwide shift from in-person patient encounters to virtual care (i.e., video- and phone-based care). However, this shift from in-person to virtual care could exacerbate health disparities due to a ‘digital divide’ in technology access. To inform policies and interventions related to virtual care expansion, this webinar will describe the shift from in-person to virtual care within VA during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic and evaluate if certain populations of Veterans were less or more likely to use virtual care. Intended audience:Researchers, clinicians, care coordinators, policy makers, educators, data analysts, Veteran stakeholders and representatives of vulnerable Veteran groups who are interested in learning how different populations of Veterans have utilized virtual care during the COVID-19 pandemic.
