Description: Performance measurement has become a way of life in healthcare, but as stated by the poet Robert Burns in “To a Mouse,” by: “The best laid schemes o' mice an' men / Gang aft a-gley.” The case of a performance measure for glycemic control in diabetes and its consequences will be discussed from different perspectives. Intended audience: individuals interested in systems thinking, performance measurement, quality improvement, and de-implementation of low (or no) value care.
