Description: The Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW) provides extensive and high-quality data which offers the opportunity for research. This session focuses specifically on creatinine measurements. Creatinine is frequently obtained in VA in different settings, and chronic kidney disease (CKD) is the fourth most common diagnosis, affecting 36% of all VA users. This presentation focuses on how to handle pharmacy files for pharmacoepidemiological design studies in the field of nephrology. The presenter will also provide examples of the use of creatinine for genome wide association scans and pharmacogenomic designs using the Million Veteran Program.
Objectives
• Provide overview of laboratory data in the VA Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW) (i.e serum creatinine).
• Review how to find drug information in the CDW (i.e. metformin), including date of fill, the number of pills per day, the strength of the pill, refill data, exposure window.
• Discuss studies using pharmacoepidemiological designs and pharmacogenomics designs on the topic of metformin exposure and kidney function.
• Describe use of creatinine and CDW pharmacy data for pharmacogenomics (metformin) in the Million Veteran Program.
