Description: Information can only make a difference when it makes a difference in what you do. Antimicrobial stewardship is a field with difficult goals in a complex system, struggling with a poor evidence base and traditionally information-poor environment. This presentation will cover the challenges of information support for decision-makers at different levels and how models of cognitive work flow can inform better tools. It will also discuss major questions in the field being addressed by VA data and how VA has been a leader in understanding antimicrobial use data. Dr. Michael Rubin will join as mentor discussant. Intended audience: CDAs, informaticians, antimicrobial stewards, hospital epidemiologists, the HSR&D community, and others interested in how data can inform policy.
