Seminar date: 1/10/2017
Description: The goal of Dr. Mull’s CDA research is to improve quality and safety in outpatient surgery through the development and implementation of an adverse event surveillance system that uses trigger tools to screen outpatient surgical data in the VA Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW). This system relies on a predictive model to identify outpatient surgeries with a high likelihood of having a true adverse event and a chart review tool to confirm whether the event occurred and how serious it is. At this stage in the CDA, the predictive model has been developed and tested and the next steps are to implement the surveillance system in 2 pilot sites. Intended audience: CDA awardees and health services researchers interested in patient safety and surgery.
