Description: Since 2013, the Center for Evaluating Patient-Centered Care in VA (EPCC) has partnered with the Office of Patient-Centered Care and Cultural Transformation (OPCC&CT) to evaluate a wide range of patient-centered care initiatives. Drawing from a natural experiment that evaluated OPCC&CT’s Personal Health Planning initiative, EPCC presenters will describe how they iteratively combined qualitative and quantitative data approaches to evaluate the new program. The research team will also discuss their experiences interacting with multiple levels of administration at OPCC& CT, the study sites, and across EPCC’s qualitative and quantitative study teams. Objectives In this presentation, we will: • Provide a brief orientation to EPCC’s work evaluating OPCC&CT’s patient-centered care initiatives. • Describe our rapid, mixed-methods approach to evaluating implementation and outcomes of Personal Health Planning. • Share lessons learned about evaluating dynamic programs in partnership with operations.
