Attendees can expect to gain a broad understanding of the various sources of data available for analytic use within the VA and where to get more information for using them. An introductory view to VA's data landscape, this session serves as the kick-off for future Database & Methods sessions that focus on specific data sources and topics. Recommended viewing for new investigators, analysts, and data users or experienced data users interested in a refresher on resources.
OBJECTIVES
By the end of this session, participants should be able to:
1. Identify some VA data sources commonly used in research and quality improvement investigations.
2. Describe high level differences in the origin and contents of these data sources.
3. Begin to conceptualize how VA data can be applied to specific research questions or areas of study.
4. Know where to go for information about applying for data access, data methods and documentation, individual support, and other data resources.
