Derrecka Boykin, PhD, is a clinical psychologist and core investigator at the Center for Innovations in Quality, Effectiveness and Safety (IQuESt) at Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC). Dr. Boykin is also a tenure-track assistant professor at Baylor College of Medicine. She received her doctorate in clinical psychology from Northern Illinois University and completed her pre-doctoral clinical internship at MEDVAMC. She completed an advanced fellowship in health services research at the South Central Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Center at MEDVAMC.

Dr. Boykin's research focuses on improving mental health care access for underserved populations, including women Veterans, rural residents, persons of color, and survivors of sexual violence. Her ongoing studies leverage non-traditional approaches, such as brief intervention models, and stakeholder-engaged methods to maximize fit and delivery of evidence-based treatments to the specific needs of these populations. Her career development award seeks to understand the current state of community-based mental health treatment delivered through MISSION Act for Veterans with military sexual trauma (MST) and develop a program that enhances the ability of community providers to serve these Veterans, especially those living in rural communities.
