HSR’s dissemination & implementation (D&I) science research aims to optimize VA healthcare services by accelerating the timeline between proving something works and implementing it throughout VA healthcare. The VA Quality Enhancement Research Initiative (QUERI) was established in 1998 to close this research-practice gap across VA, and remains the centerpiece of HSR’s D&I efforts.
QUERI projects and other D&I investigations focus on improving the quality and safety of Veteran care, understanding barriers and facilitators, developing and testing implementation strategies, scaling up and sustaining best practices, and de-implementing practices that are no longer effective or cost efficient.
