Head Injury and PTSD in Veteran and Civilian Women Who Have Experienced Intimate Partner Violence: Implications for Screening and Intervention

Description: Although there has been attention to traumatic brain injury (TBI) as a result of military service and sports injuries, there is much less known about head injuries caused by intimate partner violence (IPV). Dr. Iverson will present data on the occurrence of IPV-related TBI based on self-report data collected from two samples of women Veterans. Dr. Galovski will describe associations between head injury and PTSD treatment outcomes across several clinical trials. The presenters will conclude by discussing the National PTSD Brain Bank, including opportunities for recruitment. Intended audience: women’s health providers, mental health providers, and other healthcare professionals and researchers focusing on women’s health.
