Mental Illness and Mental Health Care Receipt among Seriously Ill Veterans

by Melissa Garrido, Ph.D.
Seminar date: 3/8/2016

Description: Addressing psychological distress among patients with chronic physical illnesses is particularly important in the context of life-limiting physical illnesses. Among patients with limited life expectancy, there are unique psychosocial issues related to the impact of mental illnesses on treatment decisions, treatment adherence, worsened physical health status, and increased health care use. Understanding needs for mental health care among seriously ill veterans may help target limited resources to patients with the greatest need for services. Intended audience: CDAs, HSR&D community, providers in pulmonology, cardiology, oncology, mental health services and palliative care.
